Funeral services for Virgie Thomas were held Monday, November 23, 2015, at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin during a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian burial. Father Lloyd Benoit was the Celebrant for the Mass. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Baldwin.
A gathering of family and friends was held Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until Mass time, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 12:30 p.m.
Virgie was a native and lifelong resident of Franklin. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption, the Catholic Daughters - Court Assumption, the Ladies Altar Society, as well as Come, Lord Jesus. Many will remember Virgie from her many years working for Dr. Chenet Jourdan (C. J.) Schexnaildre Jr. as his medical assistant. She passed away at the age of 83 on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Lafayette General Medical Center. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her family and her great granddaughter, her heart, Renley Claire.
Survivors include her daughter, Melanie T. LaRive; three grandchildren, Suzanne LaRive Day and her husband, Nick; Lori Tieperman Lott; and Keeley Tieperman Stromberg; seven great grandchildren; and her brother, Hilton LeBlanc.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thomas; her son, Hal D. Thomas; one granddaughter, Tiffany LaRive; her sister, Jeanette Ecuer; and her parents, Antoine LeBlanc and Leonide Landry LeBlanc.
