Wanda was born on Sept. 24, 1936, in Morgan City to Emile and Philonese Barbier. A Morgan City High School graduate, Wanda met her future husband in the late ‘50s while employed at Morgan City Bank. Not long after their first date, their 58-year marriage began. In the late ‘90s, Wanda retired from Lakewood Hospital after more than 30 years of service. For several years following her retirement, she and Bob enjoyed traveling in their motor home while working part-time in Florida and Tennessee. They also spent many happy days enjoying the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
At the time of her death, Wanda was an active and dedicated member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a long-time member of the Marine Corp League Auxiliary. She also served on the Lakewood Hospital Credit Union Board of Directors for many years.
Wanda was a faith-filled, loving wife, mother, aunt, cousin and friend. Always willing to help anyone in need, Wanda never met a stranger. She was a kind-hearted and generous woman to all who knew her. Even through the end of her illness, she continued to offer support to those who were closest to her heart. A true gift from God, she touched many lives.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the sixth floor staff of Teche Regional Medical Center and to Dr. Lantier Albert, Dr. Kristi Prejean, Dr. Tomas Birriel, Dr. Nicolas Sells, and especially to Dr. Robert Blereau, long-time friend and caring physician.
Visitation will be observed from 8 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. prior to the Mass.
Pallbearers will be Wanda’s beloved sons and her grandchildren.
