Haven tosses perfect game as Patterson dominates Franklin

Patterson High School swept a District 8-3A doubleheader at Franklin High Tuesday, including an 18-0 win in game 2 in which pitcher Tapanga Haven threw a perfect game.
In the game, called after three innings via the 15-run mercy rule, Haven surrendered no runs, hits and the Patterson defense allowed no runners to reach base. She fanned four batters.
Patterson had just seven hits but reached base via 15 walks in game 2.
Hailey Sehon and Kaitlynn Spradling led the team’s offensive attack. Sehon finished 1-for-1 with a home run, two runs and two stolen bases, while Spradling was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and three runs. Other top hitters included Ashlynn Rock, 1-for-1, a triple, an RBI and a run; Cayla Wiggins, 1-for-1, an RBI and two runs; and Haven, 1-for-1 and an RBI.
In game 1, Patterson won 19-0 in three innings.
Haven had another solid game as she pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts.
Patterson had 13 hits and reached base via 12 walks, too.
Kara Lawrence led the squad with a 4-for-4 performance with two RBIs, three stolen bases and four runs. Other top contributors included Mackenzie Marcel, 2-for-2, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base; Makayla Knight, 2-for-3, a triple, two runs and two stolen bases; Rock, 2-for-2, two RBIs, three runs and a stolen base; and Sehon, 1-for-1, two RBIs and two runs.
Patterson (3-4 overall, 2-1 in district) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Kaplan in a District 8-3A contest. Kaplan was the Class 3A state runner-up a year ago.
Hebert’s no-hitter leads
MCHS to win
Morgan City High School’s Kennedy Hebert tossed a no-hitter, and Morgan City run-ruled South Lafourche 12-0 in five innings.
Hebert tossed a complete game, surrendering three walks and fanning seven.
Offensively, Morgan City scored a run in the first, five each in the second and third innings, and another in the top of the fifth.
The Lady Tigers collected nine hits, including a home run by McKenzi Smith. The home run was the first for the freshman in her varsity career. She led Morgan City with a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs and a run.
Other top offensive contributors included Hebert, 1-for-4, a triple, three RBIs and a run; Dwanna LeBeau, 2-for-4, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs; Scottie Metrejean, 1-for-3, a double and two RBIs; and Gracie Verrett, 1-for-3, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs.
Morgan City (6-4, 1-0) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Ellender in a District 7-4A contest set for 4 p.m.
Central Catholic routs Ascension Episcopal
Eighth-grader Ava Nicar connected on a grand slam and collected five RBIs as Central Catholic routed Ascension Episcopal, 21-2, in three innings in District 7-1A action in Youngsville Tuesday.
Nicar finished 2-for-2 and added two stolen bases and two runs.
Central Catholic scored 16 runs in its first at bat and led 16-1 after the first inning, getting four runs via Nicar’s grand slam.
The Lady Eagles added five runs in their second plate appearance, while Ascension Episcopal scored a run in the bottom of the third. However, it wasn’t enough to stop the 15-run mercy rule from going into effect.
Sarah Thomas earned the complete-game victory for Central Catholic. In three innings, she surrendered two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.
Other top offensive contributors included Cameron McDaniel, 2-for-2, two RBIs, one stolen base and two runs; Taylor Picou, 2-for-2, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs; Hallie Autin, 2-for-3, an RBI, a stolen base and a run; and Brooke Lipari, 1-for-1, a double, a stolen base and two runs.
Central Catholic (4-6, 2-1) will return to action Thursday when it travels to face Centerville in a District 7-1A contest set for a 4:30 p.m. start.
Berwick falls at
Central-Baton Rouge
Central of Baton Rouge run-ruled Berwick, 13-3, in five innings on the road Tuesday.
While Berwick took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Central exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the frame.
Berwick added its other run in the top of the third, while Central plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Central outhit Berwick 10-2.
The Lady Panthers also committed seven errors, while Central had three miscues.
Sydney Aucoin suffered the loss for Berwick. In one inning, she surrendered seven runs on four hits.
Jaci Arnold had Berwick’s two hits as she finished 2-for-2, with an RBI and a run.
Berwick (5-4, 1-0) will return to District 8-3A action Thursday when it travels to face Erath in a 5 p.m. contest. Junior varsity action will follow.
