MCHS sweeps doubleheader from Ellender

The Morgan City Tigers swept a doubleheader with Ellender, winning games 12-2 and 22-0, both in five innings Thursday in Morgan City.
In game 2, Morgan City’s Philip Hutchinson tossed a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. In five innings, he surrendered one walk.
Offensively, Morgan City scored five runs in the second, 10 in the fourth and seven in the fifth.
The Tigers had 16 hits, led by Brady Fryou’s 4-for-4 performance with a double, a triple and four RBIs.
Other top contributors included Logan Tingle, 3-for-3; Alex Brocato, 2-for-4 with a double; Evan Stadalis, 2-for-5 with a double; and Matt Lorenzo, 1-for-3 with a triple.
In game one, Morgan City had six hits, including four doubles.
Morquiss Charles led the Tigers with a 2-for-3 performance with a double.
Other top hitters included Rhett Fryou, 1-for-1 with a double; Stadalis, 1-for-3, a double; and Brady Fryou, 1-for-4, a double.
Rhett Fryou earned the complete-game win in game one. In five innings, he surrendered four hits, one hit batter, one walk and fanned five.
The Tigers scored six runs in the first and three each in the second and third innings.
On Tuesday, Morgan City fell 8-2 to Hanson on the road.
While each team plated two runs in the first, Hanson continued its scoring with two runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth and another in the sixth.
Morgan City left the bases loaded in the first and runners at second and third in the third and sixth innings.
Charles and Brocato led Morgan City offensively as each finished 1-for-3 with a double.
On the mound, Ethan Scioneaux suffered the loss for Morgan City. In four innings (he faced three batters in the fifth), he surrendered seven runs on eight hits with one walk with four strikeouts.
Colby Glatter pitched two innings of relief and surrendered one run on two hits.
With the Tigers’ wins against Ellender Thursday, Morgan City currently sits a half-game ahead of Assumption for first place in District 7-4A action with a 5-1 mark.
Morgan City (10-11) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face South Terrebonne in a 4 p.m. District 7-4A contest.
Central Catholic run-rules Highland Baptist
Central Catholic’s Gregory Leger tossed a one-hitter and the Eagles run-ruled Highland Baptist 14-0 in five innings Thursday.
Leger earned the win as he surrendered just three walks and fanned seven in five innings of work.
Offensively, the Eagles scored in every inning except the fourth, including a six-run second inning.
Matthew Barbier led Central Catholic’s 16-hit attack with a 3-for-3 performance with a double and a run.
Other top offensive contributors included Thomas Mire, 2-for-2; Samuel Guarisco, 2-for-3, three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base; Leger, 2-for-3, an RBI; Samarick Paul, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs and a run; Charlie Barron, 1-for-2, two RBIs; Charlie Solar, 1-for-2, an RBI; Thomas Garber, 1-for-3, four RBIs and a run; and Mitchell Lemoine, an RBI and two runs.
Central Catholic (16-4 overall, 6-1 in district) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Vermilion Catholic in a 6 p.m. contest.
Patterson drops heartbreaker to E.D. White
The E.D. White Cardinals plated a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a squeeze bunt to edge Patterson 1-0 in a District 9-3A contest.
The loss was the second this week to the Cardinals by one run as Patterson fell earlier this week to E.D. White 3-2 at Patterson.
In Thursday’s win, E.D. White got a runner on via a hit by pitch in the bottom of the seventh, he was moved over to third base on a single to the next batter before scoring on a bunt to the third batter in the series.
Kenny Singleton suffered the loss for Patterson. In 6.2 innings, he surrendered one earned run on five hits with one walk and fanned six.
Patterson had opportunities to score but stranded a runner at third in the top of the second, while the Lumberjacks were ruled out on the baseline in the top of the fourth for running too far out of the baseline while avoiding a tag at third base.
Patterson also stranded runners at second base in the top of the sixth and seventh innings.
Patterson outhit E.D. White 6-5 in the win.
Brennan Gouaux led Patterson with a 1-for-2 performance, while Jamey Fabre, Kenny Singleton, Tyrik Singleton, Jake Lagrange and Bryce Beaubouef all finished 1-for-3.
Patterson (11-11, 2-2) will return to action Tuesday at Berwick in a District 9-3A contest. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
