District tourney for 9s, 11s to begin

Staff Report

District tournaments for 9- and 11-year-old teams will begin in Thibodaux Thursday at Peltier Park.
Morgan City will send teams to both tournaments.
In 9-year-old action, Morgan City will be joined by Franklin and Thibodaux in the event.
Morgan City and Franklin will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday to begin the tournament.
While Morgan City will get Friday off as Franklin and Thibodaux will play, the local squad will return to action at 10 a.m. Saturday when it faces Thibodaux.
If the three teams have one loss after the Morgan City-Thibodaux game matchup, a drawing will be held for a bye to advance to the title game at 2 p.m. Sunday, while the other two teams will meet in an elimination game at noon Sunday with the winner advancing to the 2 p.m. game.
If one team is eliminated after three round-robin format, then the two remaining teams will play for the championship at noon Sunday and the 2 p.m. contest will be used as an if-necessary game.
In 11-year-olds, because only Morgan City and Thibodaux are competing, the event will feature a best two-out-of-three format.
Game 1 will be held Thursday at 8 p.m., while the two teams will meet again Friday at 8 p.m.
If necessary, a third game will be held Saturday at noon.
The 9- and 11-year-old champions will advance to the state tournament which will be held July 10-12 in Monroe.
