Vandebilt Catholic beats Morgan City

Morgan City jumped out to a big first-quarter lead but couldn’t hold off Vandebilt Catholic as the Lady Tigers dropped their District 7-4A opener, 62-51.
While Morgan City led 23-12 after the first quarter, Vandebilt clawed its way back into the ballgame, outscoring Morgan City in every subsequent quarter, including a 19-5 fourth quarter advantage to overtake the Lady Tigers.
Cassidy Barrios scored a game-high 45 points in the win for Vandebilt, while Morgan City was led by Casey Chenevert, who had 27 points.
Morgan City led 34-28 at the half and 46-43 after three quarters.
Other top scores for Morgan City included Meya Morse with nine points; Kaylyn Washington, five; and Laqwajhia Bourgeois and Nakerial Bourgeois, four points each.
The Lady Tigers (10-5 overall, 0-1 in district) will return to action Tuesday when they host Assumption in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick falls to Kaplan
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell at Kaplan High School Friday, 49-12
Mickenzie Reed led the Lady Panthers with six points, while McKenzie Baumgartner and Reagan Bowers each scored three.
Berwick (2-14) will return to action Tuesday when hosts Patterson in both teams’ District 9-3A opener at 6:30 p.m.
