Vandebilt Catholic sweeps MCHS soccer teams

The Morgan City Tigers’ and Lady Tigers’ soccer teams fell to Vandebilt Catholic in District 7-II action Tuesday.
The Tigers fell 5-1 in a matchup of top 10 teams in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division 2 boys’ soccer power rankings, while the Lady Tigers were shut out 6-0.
In the boys’ contest, Morgan City, ranked No. 10 in the latest power rankings, scored the game’s first goal on a shot by Irving Delgado in the 10th minute.
The Terriers, ranked No. 7, tied the game in the first half, and the teams went into intermission with the score knotted at 1.
In the second half, Vandebilt Catholic scored four goals, three due to defensive errors, Morgan City coach Trevor Patterson said.
While Patterson said his team had multiple chances to score, they couldn’t connect.
Earlier, the Lady Tigers fell to Vandebilt Catholic, the No. 4 team in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s latest Division II power rankings, in a game in which Patterson said Vandebilt’s speed was too much for Morgan City.
Morgan City trailed 3-0 at the half, while the Lady Terriers scored three more goals in the second half.
Both teams will return to action Monday at home. The Lady Tigers (4-6-1, 1-2-1) will meet Houma Christian in a 5 p.m. contest, while the Tigers (6-6-3, 1-3) will follow in a 7 p.m. contest against Lutcher.
