Jesse John Larive

March 15, 1940 — September 22, 2015
Jesse John Larive, 75, a resident of Berwick, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015. Though raised in Jeanerette, Jesse had been a resident of the Tri-City area for more than 50 years.
Jesse was born on March 15, 1940, in Lafayette, the son of Beulah Ayo Larive and Justin Larive Sr.
Jesse was an avid sports fan who loved hunting, fishing, and traveling to McNeese University football games in the ’80s when his son played football and his daughters were members of the band.
Jesse was a proud member of the W.L. Bernauer Jr. American Legion Post 242 in Patterson. He was also a member of the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad.
In the late ’50s and early ’60s, Jesse served in the Navy aboard the destroyer USS Leonard F. Mason, part of the Pacific fleet. Jesse was also very proud of his 1958 Golden Glove boxing championship, and on one occasion, boxed in what is now Shannon Elementary School.
Most of all, Jesse was proud of his family. He will always be remembered for the nicknames he gave them — Honey, Tootsie, Brother, Jonni Cake, and Pumpkin.
Jesse will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his four children, Jeslyn Angeron and husband, Danny, of Berwick, Lane Larive and wife, Laura, of Patterson, Jonni Wilkinson and husband, Nathan, of Patterson, and Marae Playe and husband, Raymond, of East Providence, Rhode Island; seven grandchildren, Shannon Navarro and husband Allen, Brad Angeron and wife Adriane, Megan Larive, Luke Larive, Hailey Wilkinson, Kathryn Wilkinson and Daniel Playe; two great-grandchildren, Lauren Navarro and Emma Navarro; one sister, Sherry Bradley of Jeanerette; and three brothers, James Larive and Justin Larive Jr., both of Jeanerette, and Doney Larive of Houston.
Jesse was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Robicheaux Larive; his parents, Justin Larive Sr. and Beulah Ayo Larive; and an infant twin brother, Gerald Larive.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Twin City Funeral Home with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m.
Jesse will be laid to rest in the Berwick Mausoleum following the services with the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad performing military honors.
The Larive family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lianter Albert, Patterson Health Care, and Heart of Hospice for their caring support.
