Eagles finish 3-0 at their tournament

Central Catholic High School finished 3-0 this weekend at its annual tournament with three come-from-behind wins.
The Eagles knocked off Redemptorist, 6-2, and Ascension Catholic, 5-4, both on Saturday; and Catholic High-Pointe Coupee, 10-4, on Sunday.
Against Redemptorist, Central Catholic led 1-0 after the fourth inning. After Redemptorist plated two runs in the top of the sixth inning, the Eagles countered with five runs in the bottom of the frame.
Gregory Leger Jr. earned the win for the Eagles as he tossed a three-hitter. In seven innings, he surrendered two earned runs on three hits with two walks and fanned seven.
Offensively, Patrick Barron led the squad with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, two RBIs and a run; Stefano Guarisco finished 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run; and Matthew Barbier, 1-for-2, two RBIs.
Central Catholic had four errors in the win.
Against Ascension Catholic, the Eagles rallied with two runs in the bottom of the eighth for the victory.
Trailing 4-3, Central Catholic scored runs on back-to-back singles by Samarick Paul and Guarisco.
While Central Catholic took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, Ascension Catholic rallied with two runs in the top of the second inning.
The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the fourth and took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
Ascension Catholic tied the game at 3 in the top of the seventh and took a 4-3 lead after plating another run in the top of the eighth.
Samuel Guarisco earned the win in relief. In four innings, he surrendered two runs — one earned — on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Blake Hidalgo started the game for the Eagles, and in four innings, he surrendered two earned runs on six hits with two walks and one strikeout.
Offensively, Mitchell Lemoine led the Eagles with a 2-for-4 performance with a double and two RBIs.
Other top hitters included Stefano Guarisco, 1-for-4, an RBI, a run and a stolen base; Paul, 1-for-4, an RBI and a stolen base; and Barron, 1-for-4, an RBI.
Ascension Catholic left 10 runners on base, while Central Catholic stranded nine.
Each team committed four errors.
Against Catholic High, Central Catholic used a six-run fourth inning to put the game away.
Trailing 4-3 entering the bottom of the fourth after Catholic High had plated four runs in the top of the frame, the Eagles erupted for six runs for a 9-4 lead.
The home team added one more run in the bottom of the fifth for the final.
Stefano Guarisco led the Eagles with a 2-for-3 performance with a double, three RBIs, three stolen bases and a run, while Barron was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs.
Other top performers for the Eagles included Thomas Garber, 2-for-4, a run; Lemoine, 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run; and Leger, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run.
Charlie Solar earned the win for Central Catholic in relief. Solar pitched four innings and surrendered two hits, one walk and fanned four. Solar came in with the bases loaded in the top of the fourth with no outs and got out of the inning unscathed.
Starter Patrick Barron received a no-decision. In three innings, he surrendered four earned runs on eight hits with two walks and fanned two.
Catholic High left nine runners on base in the loss and committed four errors. They outhit Central Catholic 10-9.
Central Catholic (8-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face St. Michael the Archangel in a 4 p.m. contest.
Patterson finishes
weekend 2-1
Patterson High School finished its weekend 2-1 at Central Catholic’s tournament with wins against Houma Christian and Ascension Catholic and a loss to Catholic High-Pointe Coupee.
On Saturday, Patterson defeated Houma Christian, 4-0, before falling to Catholic High, 7-6.
The Lumberjacks rebounded Sunday with an 8-7 win against Ascension Catholic in extra innings.
Against Houma Christian, Patterson plated a run each in the second and fifth innings and two runs in the sixth.
On the mound, Sirbatian Charles earned the win as he tossed a three-hitter. In seven innings, he fanned six.
Kenny Singleton led Patterson with a 3-for-4 performance with a double and an RBI, while Joel Singleton was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, a run and a stolen base.
Other top offensive contributors included Jamey Fabre, 2-for-3, an RBI; and Tyrik Singleton, an RBI.
Patterson pounded out nine hits but left eight runners on base.
Against Catholic High, Patterson could not complete a late-game comeback in a 7-6 loss.
While Catholic High led as much as 7-1 following the top of the fifth, Patterson rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, two more in the bottom of the sixth, but was denied a comeback in the bottom of the seventh as it could muster just one run.
Early on, Patterson took a 1-0 lead before Catholic High came back for the sizable lead, including a five-run third inning.
Kenny Singleton took the loss for Patterson. In four innings, he surrendered seven runs — six earned — on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
In three innings of relief, Joel Singleton surrendered one hit, one walk and fanned three.
Offensively, Patterson’s Brennan Gouaux finished 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, while Jake Lagrange was 2-for-3 with a run and three stolen bases.
Other top offensive contributors for the Lumberjacks included Tyrik Singleton, 1-for-3, a double and two RBIs; Brad Beaubouef, 1-for-2, an RBI, two runs and two stolen bases; and Joel Singleton, an RBI.
Catholic High left nine runners on base in the win, while Patterson had three errors in the loss. The Lumberjacks also stole six bases.
Against Ascension Catholic, Beaubouef’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th scored the winning run for Patterson.
Beaubouef broke a tie that had been in effect since the bottom of the seventh when Patterson had rallied with two runs to tie the game at 7.
Early on, Patterson took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first before Ascension Catholic plated four runs in the top of the third for the lead.
While Patterson cut its deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the third, Ascension Catholic responded with two runs in the top of the fifth for a 6-2 lead.
The teams traded runs with Ascension Catholic taking a 7-3 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Patterson responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the bottom of the seventh for the victory.
Tyrik Singleton led Patterson with a 4-for-6 performance with a double and four RBIs.
Other top contributors for Patterson included Lukas Carnley, 3-for-5, two runs; Gouaux, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI and two runs; Blake Dryer, 2-for-4, a double and two runs; Jamey Fabre, 2-for-4, a run; and Beaubouef, 1-for-6, an RBI.
Christian Soria earned the win in relief. In five innings, he surrendered two hits, two walks and fanned one.
Lagrange started the game and got a no-decision as he surrendered four runs — one earned — on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
In the lengthy game, Patterson stranded 16 runners on base, while Ascension Catholic left 11 on the base paths.
Patterson (4-6) will return to action today when it travels to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where it will face Pine Prairie in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick finishes 2-1
at Chalmette
The Berwick Panthers finished 2-1 at Chalmette’s tournament with wins against East Jefferson and John Ehret and a loss to Mandeville.
Berwick opened the tournament with a 7-1 loss to Mandeville Saturday before rebounding with a 13-3 win against East Jefferson in its final game Saturday and a 10-0 win against John Ehret on Sunday.
Against Mandeville, the Skippers broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth while plating five more — all unearned — in the bottom of the sixth. All of the runs scored with two outs.
Berwick was limited to two hits in the loss but its pitching staff only surrendered six.
Cameron Wiley suffered the loss. In 5.2 innings, he surrendered four runs — one earned — on three hits with one walk, three hit batters and three strikeouts.
Neal Theriot led Berwick with a 1-for-3 performance with a double.
On Saturday, Berwick run-ruled East Jefferson 13-3 in five innings.
Berwick scored in every inning, including four runs in the bottom of the first and three runs apiece in the bottom of the third and fourth innings.
The three-run third inning came via a Daniel Gray three-run home run.
Gray finished the game 1-for-2 with a home run and three RBIs.
He also earned the win on the mound. In 3.2 innings, he surrendered three earned runs on three hits with four walks, one hit batter and five strikeouts.
In 1.1 innings of relief, Austin Price surrendered just two hits.
Offensively, Bradley Gray led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles and four RBIs.
Other top offensive contributors included Price, 1-for-1, an RBI; Tanner Caldwell, 1-for-2, two RBIs; and Wiley, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Against John Ehret, Berwick scored in every inning except the first and the fifth, putting the game away with a six-run sixth inning.
Berwick had just five hits in the shutout but John Ehret surrendered 10 walks and hit four Panthers.
As for the Panthers, three pitchers combined to surrender one hit.
Brandon Fryou earned the win. In 4.1 innings, he surrendered a hit, five walks, one hit batter and fanned seven.
In 0.2 innings of relief, Nick Mayon fanned one, while in one inning, Grant Oubre surrendered a walk and fanned two.
Offensively, Daniel Gray led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with a home run and four RBIs.
Other top hitters included Mayon, 1-for-1, two RBIs; and Caldwell, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Berwick will return to action today when it travels to take on Highland Baptist in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
Morgan City finishes 1-2
in CCHS tournament
Morgan City finished 1-2 in Central Catholic’s tournament, defeating Loreauville and falling to Ascension Catholic and Houma Christian.
On Saturday, Morgan City won 5-4 against Loreauville before falling 6-5 to Ascension Catholic.
On Sunday, Morgan City fell to Houma Christian 5-4 in nine innings.
No individual stats were available.
Morgan City (3-8) will return to action later this week when they participate in New Iberia’s tournament.
